Our Story

Orofino has always been more than a place on a map. It is a community shaped by the people who have lived, worked, gathered, raised families, built businesses, and cared for this place for generations.

The Orofino Village Alliance—“The Village”—grew from a simple question:

What could happen if more of us worked together to care for the heart of Orofino?

As plans for major improvements to our downtown began taking shape, conversations were already happening among residents, business owners, community organizations and local leaders about what revitalization could mean beyond new streets and sidewalks.

We saw an opportunity.

An opportunity to honor what came before us while imagining what could come next. To preserve the character that makes Orofino distinctly Orofino. To create beautiful, welcoming places where people want to linger. To bring neighbors together. To support a downtown that feels alive and connected to the larger community around it.

And, most importantly, to invite people to participate in shaping that future.

That is how The Village began.

A Community Effort

The Village isn’t here to replace the work already being done in Orofino.

We are here to connect it, support it, build upon it and help bring people into it.

Residents, businesses, property owners, volunteers, community organizations, local government, regional partners and visitors all have a place in the story of Orofino.

Our role is to help create opportunities for those pieces to come together—through downtown revitalization, historic preservation, beautification, community gatherings, arts and culture, volunteer projects and thoughtful placemaking.

Because a strong community isn’t built by one organization.

It is built by a village.

Why The Village Exists

Orofino has been changing since it was founded. Changes were made out of necessity, desire, population and industries.

And still today, our downtown infrastructure is being renewed. Historic buildings are finding new life. New ideas are emerging alongside businesses and traditions that have served this community for generations.

But revitalization is about more than construction.

It is about people.

It is the difference between rebuilding a sidewalk and creating a place where people want to walk.

Between preserving an old building and helping another generation understand why it matters.

Between holding an event and creating a memory.

Between living in the same town and feeling like we belong to the same community.

The Village exists to help nurture those connections.

We want to help Orofino remain unmistakably Orofino while becoming an even more welcoming, vibrant and beautiful place to live, work, visit and gather.
